Stardrops

Stellacea stricta

This fast-growing plant was seen growing in isolated clumps in the dry meadows of Galaxias. I have seen a few different colors on the flowers but most have been this light burgundy. The plant is often accompanied by a flurry of pollinators whose coloration usually matches that of the

blooms.

I believe they grow in a stacked manner so as to compete with the surrounding grasses for light.

Galaxias is aptly named for the swarm of life that can be seen in these meadows. The diversity is on a scale almost immeasurable to those that might inventory it.
